The Oakland International Airport (OAK) is located 5 miles south of the central business district. It is the 10th busiest airport in the United States and an important hub for Southwest Airlines.
Oakland International is a major competitor to San Francisco Airport which is located on the western side of San Francisco Bay). Many of the low-cost airlines offer flights to Oakland Airport.
Airlines that provide service to the Oakland Airport include: Alaska, Horizon, Allegiant, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, SATA, Southwest, Spirit and United.
Although there is not currently a light rail station (BART) at the airport, frequent AirBART shuttle busses (and public transit) connect the airport to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station.
The BART system (Bay Area Rapid Transit) offers commuter rail service to Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, the SFO Airport and other destinations.
